Kirk Hays
Matthew Wright
Brad Holm
Holm Wright Hyde & Hays represents local, national and international construction,
engineering, school district, government and insurance clients.
Brad Holm has tried complex commercial, construction and personal injury cases for 31
years. In 2011, he successfully defended a client in a $1.2 billion bid protest of a government contract. He routinely handles complex commercial and construction disputes involving
multimillion-dollar claims and complicated eDiscovery. “With copious big-case experience,
we have learned how to get up to speed quickly, drill down to the key issues, and avoid unnecessary expense,” Holm says. Having battled big firms in cases with 10-million-document
databases, he now teaches eDiscovery at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law.
Matthew Wright has tried high-profile cases and practiced appellate law at the highest level. In 2009, he won immunity for his clients in a controversial civil rights case that he
argued before the United States Supreme Court, which recently was ranked 29th out of
the 50 most influential cases that have shaped life and law in Arizona’s first 100 years. The
Arizona Attorney also recently highlighted a significant defense verdict that Wright won
for an Arizona college arising out of an assault with serious injury after a football game.
Wright considers this win “especially important” because it vindicated the actions of the
administration, the football staff and campus police.
Kirk Hays has been a civil litigator practicing construction law for 15 years. In 2011,
Hays obtained a $1.3 million plaintiff’s verdict in a two-week jury trial against a civil engineering firm responsible for a drainage channel that failed and flooded a school. “The
case involved complex civil engineering and hydrology concepts,” Hays says. “To be
successful at trial, a lawyer must have the experience to thoroughly understand all the
technicalities of those concepts, but then simplify them so that a jury can readily understand. That is very difficult to do—but it’s the difference between winning and losing.”
