Magazine. We’ve kept the things you love while expanding
the editorial menu.
You’ll find a lot of quick reads in the front of the
magazine—such as “Discovery,” a brief, witty Q&A with
one of your colleagues—and you’ll notice new design
elements that give the publication a fresh look.
So how do we choose which lawyers to write about?
First, the attorneys must be selected to the current
year’s Super Lawyers list. Then we factor in which firms
and practice areas we’ve recently covered—we don’t
want to play favorites or ignore deserving-but-lesser-known candidates.
We aim for diversity in region, gender, ethnicity. Attorneys
ranking near the top of the list are more likely to appear
on the cover. And of course, the story itself is crucial.
The one thing that isn’t a factor? Advertising. As with the
Super Lawyers list, editorial is never for sale. In fact, our
editorial team has won more than a dozen journalism
awards around the country.
In this issue, Brian Sun talks about the risks, outside-the-box thinking and gut checks that go into his
successful white collar and business litigation practice;
entertainment attorney Bonnie Eskenazi relates how
putting a dead man on the stand helped her win a
case; and 11 attorneys recount their year clerking on the
U.S. Supreme Court. We also take a spin around Santa
