Mr. Schwartzbach won the nationally publicized acquittals
of actor Robert Blake, civil rights lawyer Stephen Bingham,
and organ transplant surgeon Dr. Hootan Roozrokh. He
also secured the exoneration of a man who was wrongfully
imprisoned for 19 years, helped to pioneer the Battered Woman
Syndrome Defense, persuaded the Governor of Michigan to
deny extradition on the basis that the Arkansas penal system
was unconstitutional, achieved California Supreme Court
rulings mandating felony preliminary hearings and establishing
the presumptive right of capital murder defendants to two
lawyers, obtained a sex discrimination judgment against the San
Francisco Police Department, and jointly won a $295 million
products liability verdict.
