CONSISTENTLY EXCEEDING EXPECTATIONS
The IT executive had no idea that his life was about to dramatically
change. He was driving home on Route 6 in New York when his
vehicle, along with another vehicle coming toward him, hit a patch
of black ice. The collision totaled both cars, and left the executive
with a crushed elbow and arm, requiring more than 25 surgeries.
Daniel P. O’Toole of Block O’Toole & Murphy tackled this difficult,
emotional case for the executive. At the trial, state officials
reluctantly conceded that they knew that the roadway was
frequently icy, but they failed to protect and warn motorists.
Many lawyers could have lost this challenging case. Not O'Toole.
The case settled for $22,500,000 after a Court of Claims judge
awarded the client $20,181,484.
The record-breaking settlement is part of a remarkable track
