Are we psychics over at Super Lawyers No, but we do our homework,
which is why in 2005 we were confident enough to title our story on
Philadelphia’s Seth Williams, “The Man Who Would Be D.A.” Our
story ran months after Williams, a former Philadelphia assistant
district attorney, was on the ballot in the Democratic primary for
district attorney. He lost, although 46 percent of the vote swung his
way. He shared with us that it wasn’t if he became the next D.A.,
but when. The “when” was November 2009. Williams, with more
than 75 percent of the votes, was sworn in as Philadelphia’s district
attorney, the first African-American to serve the commonwealth in
that role. Coming off his first year in office, Williams can boast a new
community prosecution system that assigns cases to prosecutors
based on location, intensifying community relationships; improved
conviction rates; and the opening of two community action centers,
free to taxpayers, which assist city residents seek help or report
crime. This year his office will roll out “The Choice is Yours,” a
program designed to help first-time offenders avoid a life of crime.
