With this issue, we are pleased to bring you a freshly
redesigned Super Lawyers Magazine. We’ve kept the
things you love—like the compelling attorney profiles—
and, with input from our readers, have expanded our
editorial lineup to include a menu of great new items.
You’ll find quick reads in the front of the magazine—
such as “Discovery,” a brief, witty Q&A by one of your
colleagues. And from cover to cover, you’ll notice bold
new design elements.
How do we choose which lawyers to write about? First,
the attorneys must be selected to the current year’s Super
Lawyers list. Then we factor in which firms and practice
areas we’ve recently covered—we don’t want to play
favorites or ignore deserving-but-little-known candidates.
We aim for diversity in other areas, too: region, gender,
ethnicity. Attorneys ranking near the top of the list are
more likely to appear on the cover. And of course, the
story itself is crucial. The one thing that isn’t a factor?
Advertising. As with the Super Lawyers list, editorial is
never for sale. We are proud to say our magazines and
editorial team have won more than a dozen journalism
awards around the country.
In this issue, Manuel Berrelez with Vinson & Elkins tells
us how an attorney who intervened in his life as a high
school student inspired him to set his sights on law. Also,
five members of one family—the Simpson clan—talk
about their mutual love of lawyering, though it led them
to diverse practice areas. At McCathern, banking attorney
Arnold Shokouhi credits his success to his mother, who
fled revolutionary Iran and raised three sons on her own.
And McGlinchey Stafford litigator Emily Stroope tells us
her very favorite word—in most any language.
Thank you for reading. We would love to get your feedback
on the new and improved Super Lawyers Magazine.
