Joseph D. Hampton is a shareholder with Betts, Patterson &
Mines, P.S. He is admitted in Washington, Montana, and Hawaii.
His practice focuses on representation of insurance carriers in
coverage and extracontractual matters, particularly with respect
to numerous types of liability insurance, including commercial
general liability, personal lines, directors and officers, errors
and omissions, excess, and umbrella. This work includes both

After graduating from Pomona College and serving in the Peace
Corps in West Africa, Mr. Love obtained his J.D. at Georgetown
University La w Center. He has been with Thorsrud Cane & Paulich
since 1989, where his practice focuses on insurance coverage
issues and appellate litigation. For several years, he chaired the
Washington Defense Trial Lawyers Amicus Committee, and he
recently chaired the Northwest Insurance Coverage Association.
He has a special interest in written advocacy and continues to
pursue the elusive goal of writing the perfect brief. He and his
wife Marilyn enjoy competitive rowing (crew) and are very proud
of their two children, Ian and Meredith, who have both pursued
post-graduate education.

currently also serves as the Chairperson of the Pike Place
Market Preservation & Development Authority (which owns

Patrick Paulich has represented insurance companies and their
insureds for 30 years. He has extensive experience in insurance
coverage disputes, bad faith litigation, construction defect and

Paul Cane. Patrick has been the firm’s managing shareholder
since its inception. He received both his undergraduate

Todd Hayes represents contractors, developers, and other
policyholders in insurance coverage litigation, and is also an
experienced appellate lawyer. He has successfully litigated cases
involving almost every type of insurance sold, from directors and
officers to builders’ risk to CGL. His published appellate decisions
include Panorama Village v. Allstate, 144 Wn.2d 130 (2001);
De Witt Constr. v. Charter Oak, 307 F.3d 1127 (9th Cir. 2002); and
Williams v. Athletic Field, Inc., 172 Wn.2d 683 (2011). Todd earned
his B.A. in business from the University of Washington and his
J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the

Mark Thorsrud enjoys practicing law. For more than 25 years,

Gregory Wesner is a licensed patent attorney whose practice
focuses on patent, trademark and other intellectual property
litigation, and related counseling. Mr. Wesner’s patent litigation
experience includes Hatch-Waxman cases on behalf of specialty

laser telemetry, wireless infrastructure technology, high-speed
scanning radio technology, and algorithms for video and image
