EDITORIAL
Welcome to Super Lawyers Business Edition.
This annual, national listing of top attorneys
in the U.S. serves as your guide to the
go-to attorneys and firms in litigation, tax,
employment, intellectual property, real
estate and construction. You’ll find attorneys
from every state in the U.S., representing
8,000 law firms of all sizes—all selected to
the Super Lawyers list in 2010 because they
exhibit excellence in practice. Whether you
need a multinational powerhouse firm or a
solo practicing, world-renowned expert—
you’ll find them here.
You’ll also find compelling profiles on general
counsel from AOL, Procter & Gamble,
General Mills, Starwood Hotels & Resorts,
PetSmart and The Walt Disney Co. Common
among these attorneys is a need to manage
risk and anticipate what’s around the corner
for their respective companies; to adapt to
changes brought by technology, innovation
and globalization; and a desire to be part of
something beyond the practice of law.
We were honored to earn a rare, in-depth
interview with Disney’s Alan Braverman (his
first in 1 8 years), and we were awed by Julie
Jacobs’ M&A scorecard at AOL, including
the acquisition of The Huffington Post
earlier this year. Starwood’s Ken Siegel talks
about the challenges of operating around
the globe, including data privacy issues
of hotel guests in China, where Starwood
will open a new property every two weeks
this year. Speaking of data privacy, P&G’s

Trade Commission chair and champion
of data privacy rights, continues to be a
champion for consumers, now battling IP
infringers, and protecting the P&G brands
and consumers from imposters. General
Mills’ Rick Palmore, another brand steward,
is as comfortable in Washington, D.C.,
working with federal agencies about food
regulations, as he is in Sao Paolo speaking
to local grocers. In Arizona, PetSmart’s
Emily D. Dickinson is on a mission to help
her department’s attorneys become leaders.
I hope you enjoy this edition of Super
Lawyers, and I’d love to hear from you if
you have suggestions for how we might
make it even more useful for you. Just
