You should contact John Camp Law, LLC.
Frightened you should be—you are dealing with
two different and complex retirement systems
(military and Civil Service) with different benefits,
employee healthcare systems and insurance
programs. There may even be two additional
retirement accounts (TSPs) each having unique
rules for division upon divorce. To successfully
negotiate this case, you will need to: 1) identify
all of the benefits under each retirement
system; 2) effectively conduct discovery; 3)
determine what is separate and what is marital
property; 4) determine an equitable division
of each benefit; 5) precisely draft appropriate
domestic relations orders for each retirement
system; 6) serve each federal plan administrator
in accordance with their regulations; and 7)
effectively advise the client on how to protect her
interests in the retirement benefits and other
federal entitlements. Don’t overlook that your
client may be eligible for former spouse survivor
benefits under each retirement system, low-cost,
post-divorce healthcare insurance benefits and
assignment of employee life insurance benefits.
How do you safely transit the minefield and get
back to sleeping at night? Retain a subject matter
expert to be your consultant and expert witness, if
needed. As a partner in your case, he can address
the federal benefits, bring order to the chaos and
let you get back to being lead counsel.
Wm. John Camp, founder of John Camp
Law, LLC, is a recognized subject matter expert
in divorce and federal retirement benefits.
Knowledge is Power Put an expert at your

STUMPED BY FEDERAL RETIREMENT ISSUES?
“I’m a skilled family law attorney, but I don’t know how to protect my client in a complex divorce case involving federal retirement
benefits. I represent the wife, and the husband is receiving military retirement and also holds a senior position in a federal agency.
I‘m afraid I will miss something big and possibly be sued for malpractice, and I need help and fast! What should I do?”
