Airing It Out
In 2015 Solomiany took his first flight in a small plane
and was immediately hooked. “As soon as I got off that
plane, I was like, this is something I want to do,” he says.
So he took lessons in a Cirrus SR22 and got his private
pilot’s license in two months. It’s enabled him to expand
his business—he says he’s taking some bigger cases
around Georgia and working as a consultant in Florida—
but mostly it’s just fun. He enjoys flying up to Ann
Arbor, home of his undergrad alma mater, to watch his
Michigan Wolverines play in the Big House on Saturdays.
“When I’m in my plane flying, or at a Michigan football
game—those are the only times I’m zoned out of
work,” he says. “It’s just the freedom of it, that you can
just fly. It’s a big rush.” So much so that he’s made a
deal with his new, farther-flung clients: just pay for the
gas it takes him to get there. He’s having too much fun
in the air to charge for travel time.
