ALAN M. RIFKIN, managing partner of the firm, is a well-respected commercial attorney who has represented many national
and international corporations and institutions, including the
Baltimore Orioles, the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network, the Maryland
Jockey Club, the Washington Redskins and The Washington Post,
among many others. Rifkin focuses on business transactions, sports
and entertainment law and complex commercial litigation matters.
M. CELESTE BRUCE, co-chair of the firm’s litigation group, focuses
her practice on complex civil and commercial matters in state and
federal courts. Bruce has represented clients in diverse matters,
including antitrust, contract disputes, fraudulent transactions, election
law, creditors’ rights, commercial paper, business torts, franchise
rights and catastrophic personal injury cases.
CHARLES S. FAX concentrates on complex commercial
and business cases, insurance coverage disputes and class
actions. Fax has co-authored Discovery Problems and Their
Solutions, published by ABA Publishing, and Discovery
Problems and Solutions, published by MICPEL. He is an
adjunct professor at the University of Baltimore School of
Law and writes a column on civil procedure published by the
ABA’s Section of Litigation.
JOYCE E. SMITHEY leads the firm’s labor and
employment practice. Smithey regularly advises employers
and employees on employment discrimination matters,
affirmative action, wage and hour issues, restrictive
covenants and sexual harassment. Smithey also assists
employers and employees with employment law
compliance, drafting employee handbooks and providing
on-site training sessions on employment law topics.
