SEASONED LAW FIRM CONTINUES HISTORIC RUN FOR ITS INJURED CLIENTS
Block O’Toole & Murphy has built a reputation for excellence—and
for impressive results. Its attorneys are known for being focused,
assertive and committed to pursuing justice for their clients.
The firm specializes in representing clients who have suffered
in construction accidents, truck and motor vehicle crashes,
and other personal injury matters. It has earned industry-wide respect for its achievements and universal acclaim for its
commitment to fighting for clients.
Its attorneys are dedicated to their mission. In 2016, Block O’Toole
& Murphy again recovered well over $100 million in verdicts and
settlements for clients and attained four of the top five overall
settlements reached throughout New York State. The team
garnered three of the top five settlements in construction accident
cases and six of the top 10 settlements in motor vehicle accident
cases in New York State.
Partners Stephen J. Murphy and David L. Scher secured the
second-highest settlement of 2016 in the state—$9.95 million—for
a woman who suffered serious injuries when she was struck by a
careening van in a parking lot. “We can’t undo the damage she
suffered,” says Murphy, “but this settlement helps to ensure that
she will receive adequate care for the rest of her life.”
The firm’s excellence in representing victims of construction
accidents continued in 2016. Murphy and Scher accomplished
settlements of $7.4 million and $5.5 million. Partners Jeffrey A.
Block and S. Joseph Donahue secured a $7.3 million outcome, and
Partner Daniel P. O’Toole and Senior Trial Associate Frederick C.
Aranki obtained a $6 million settlement for a scaffold fall victim.
The firm worked tirelessly to achieve a particularly challenging $13.5
million settlement in 2017, a record-breaking amount for a Suffolk
County personal injury case. Lead trial attorney O’Toole and Senior Trial
Associate Scott C. Occhiogrosso represented a pedestrian who suffered
serious brain and bodily injuries when she was struck by a vehicle.
In addition, the firm is responsible for a record-setting $32
million verdict, the largest personal injury verdict ever recorded
in Long Island; and for a $20 million verdict, the second-largest
pain and suffering award in the court of claims.
