In the past six years, Wilson’s firm has
increased by 50 percent. “We were 19
lawyers in 2010, and now we’re 28,” she
says. “And we have taken out the rest
of the floor and filled it. We’re sort of
running out of space.” Wilson Turner
Kosmo is evaluating opening offices in
areas other than San Diego and San
Francisco. “We now have clients that
cover the whole state,” Wilson says.
Since 2008, Schoville has been inducted
into the Consumer Attorneys of San
Diego Trial Lawyer Hall of Fame, elected
president and chief executive officer of
Miramar National Cemetery Support
Foundation and, last fall, he received an
Outstanding Trial Lawyer Award from
the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego.
In 2014, Schoville won an $11 million
verdict against the state of California
in a wrongful death case involving an
automobile accident on Route 78.
In addition to continuing his criminal
defense work at his solo practice, the
lawyer we dubbed “Mr. Fix-It” in 2011
released Law and Disorder: Absurdly Funny
Moments from the Courts, his fifth book,
in 2014. Compiled from over 30 years of
court transcripts, the book shows Sevilla’s
knack for being able to find humor in even
the most dire of circumstances.
In 2015, Gerald “Gerry” McMahon
celebrated his 50th year of practicing
law. “I’m happy to be able to say I’m still
doing it. The older you get, the happier
you are to say that,” says the business
litigation attorney. “‘Still upright’ would
be the best explanation I can give,” he
adds with a laugh.
Gomez has continued to grow Gomez
Trial Attorneys, which now boasts 18
lawyers. He recently obtained the first
plaintiff’s verdict in the United States
for the victim of a defective DePuy ASR
hip—which in turn led to thousands of
settlement cases—and he will soon try
a national class action case involving
homeopathic drugs. Of course, Gomez
continues to add to his collection of
tattoos. The most recent? A samurai
warrior on horseback.
When we caught up with our inaugural
cover subject, he was in Australia with the
International Academy of Trial Lawyers,
as a member of its board of directors.
Casey is currently representing the family
of Junior Seau, the recent NFL Hall of
Fame inductee who suffered from chronic
traumatic encephalopathy and tragically
committed suicide in 2012. “We have opted
out of the settlement with the NFL and
are pursuing the NFL separately from any
class action settlement,” Casey says. “The
litigation has already had a huge impact
on changing behavior on the football field
in regard to concussions.”
