$6.4 billion acquisition in 2009, to being
the guy pulling duty on the company’s
1-800 complaint line.
To say Anheuser-Busch InBev’s Sabine
Chalmers has an international dance card
would be an understatement. Raised in
India, the London-trained solicitor had an
instrumental role in the merging of InBev—a
brewing company that was the child of
Belgium’s Interbrew and Brazil’s AmBev—
and American brewing giant Anheuser-Busch. Needless to say, it took her a few
passport stamps to help form the world’s
largest brewer in 2008.
We also included a story that examines
best practices for general counsels
and outside counsel. We spoke to GCs
including Leslie M. Turner of The Hershey
Company, John Page of Golden State
Foods and Ona Alston Dosunmu of the
Brookings Institution, as well as various
outside counsel. What followed was a
frank conversation about alternative
fee structuring, the need for constant
communication, and the critical
importance of an outside counsel who has
seen it all before.

Lawyers Business Edition. If you have

FROM THE PUBLISHER
Welcome to the annual Super Lawyers
Business Edition, featuring the top attorneys
in commercial practices across the nation
and London. In this definitive guide you will
find lawyers from more than 8,500 firms who
have mastered their skills in business and
transactional work; construction, real estate
and environmental; employment; IP; and
business litigation. Each attorney featured
here, whether from a powerhouse firm or a
solo practitioner, exhibits excellence in the
practice of law and has been included on
a Super Lawyers list in 2013 or 2014. You
will also find lists of leading law firms of all
sizes that we have ranked as the top in these
business practice areas.
This year we are honored to profile the
general counsels of some of the world’s
most recognized and trusted brands.
Teresa Wynn Roseborough of The Home
Depot has kept some pretty interesting
company—she was one of Al Gore’s legal
advisers during the nail-biting 2000
election recount and she worked on
President Bill Clinton’s transition team—but
what excites her most these days is working
for a values-driven company. “The culture
here is thoroughly committed to doing the
right thing, at every level,” she says.
Our story on Tom Sager will teach you
a thing or two about the DuPont Legal
Model—an innovative way of practicing
law that major companies still study.
“When I became chief litigation counsel [at
DuPont], I inherited thousands of cases,
and the thinking was that there must be
a better way,” he says. “We needed more
than a new vision. We needed a new
playbook.” So Sager wrote it.
Don H. Liu thought he had it all figured
out: divinity school. But after some
reflection, and a few other career-path
changes, he found himself in the top seat
at Xerox, where he thrilled at the chance
to help revitalize a great American brand.
There’s not much he doesn’t have his
hands in—from diversity advocacy, to a
